The Job Experience, IT Plumbing: Year #5, Part 2

Payday

Plumbers like money.

In the last post, I barely spoke about the actual Job Experience at my new employer, FinancialCompany. Instead, I focused a lot of content on why I dislike the core makeup of office jobs.

That’s getting changed, pronto. For better or worse, this time, I’m going to talk details.

On a high level, I’m going to get into a bit of the hiring process, the culture of FinancialCompany, the staggering amount of learning I must do in order to succeed, and coping with job-related failure.

There is work, and then there is work at FinancialCompany. Let’s get to it.

The Job Experience, Tech Support: Year #4, Part 2

Year 4, Part 2/2

And back to happy — mostly, anyways.

It’s time to finish up year 4.

In the first part of the year, I finally made critical lifestyle changes to enable a higher savings rate and remove a great deal of job-related stress.

Here in the second part, I realize what it means to go against the grain of my peers when it comes to spending and long term goals.

At the same time I start searching for alternate employment — and not just in my own industry. I examine video game companies and also consider going back to school to receive formal training as a 3-D artist.

And finally, my own employer, SoftwareCompany, moved their support division from San Francisco to Denver. Incredibly, most of my co-workers end up making the move. I had a big decision to make.

Should I stay or do I go?

As it happened, I did both.

The Job Experience, Tech Support: Year #4, Part 1

Year 4

Calm down there, buddy... it's only work!

Calm down there, buddy… it’s only work!

All jobs eventually come to an end. My tech support role died at the end of year 4.

I didn’t get fired or laid off. I left because it was time for me to go. You’re probably wondering how I built up the confidence to leave, given the wreck that I was toward the end of Year 3.

Easy. I started taking charge of my job, my finances, and my life.

Control. That’s what this year is all about.

Yes, I did this for four years.

Yes, I did this for four years.

Serious Warning: I’m going to embark on some very long, self-indulgent posts through June the end of July mid-August.

If you read blogs strictly for financial insight, skip these. I won’t be offended, and you’ll thank yourself for not wasting ten minutes every day.
